Fragments

Fragments investigates the friction between advertising and human identity. Drawing from two decades at the forefront of global advertising, Mattia Montanari applies a seasoned, critical eye to commercial print media, excavating advertisements, fashion editorials, and pop ephemera to reassemble them into surreal, tactile collages.

The collection operates across two distinct visual registers:

  • Surreal Assemblage: Multiplied eyes, distorted features, and consumer artifacts converge into swollen, dreamlike avatars. These composite figures capture the sensory overload, vanity, and emotional multiplicity of living in a hyper-visual world.

  • Structural Deconstruction: Abstract compositions strip media down to its raw material. Through sliced print, torn kraft paper, and rhythmic weaving, Montanari shifts focus from commercial messaging to texture, line, and physical form.

By severing mass media from its original persuasive context, Fragments ransforms commercial noise into an intimate, introspective exploration of identity.
