Solitary Gloves
A glove is an extension of touch, designed to hold, comfort, and protect the human hand. Yet, when abandoned on a city pavement, tucked into a windowsill, or resting on a bicycle handlebar, it becomes a quiet relic of modern life, a phantom gesture left behind.
Solitary Gloves explores the geography of isolation through a collection of street photographs captured across the globe by Mattia Montanari. Each photograph documents a singular, misplaced glove resting in limbo (OBLIO), mirroring the urban solitude that exists within densely populated spaces. Once part of a functional pair, these forgotten objects become surrogates for our own human longing, vulnerability, and disconnect.
To deepen this dialogue, each visual portrait is paired with poetry curated from hellopoetry.com. The written words, ranging from reflections on bitter winter frost to the intimate addiction of being alone, give voice to the discarded objects. Together, the imagery and poetry create a contemplative space to examine the beauty, sorrow, and quiet resonance found in moments of total isolation.
